rehoming threads make it sound like every hard choice is cruelty

I've been reading old posts because a friend may need to place her dog after a housing disaster, and wow, some of the comment sections are harsh. Obviously people dump dogs for dumb reasons sometimes. But there are also medical crises, domestic issues, elder care, sudden moves, dogs that are unsafe with resident pets, all kinds of real life. I wish the conversation had more room for harm reduction and less performance.

There is a huge difference between 'I got bored' and 'my landlord banned dogs after the fire.'

Internet pet culture can get very purity-brained.

People prefer a villain because systems and scarcity are harder to talk about.

Thank you. My sister had to rehome after a stroke in the family and people were monsters about it online.

Harm reduction is exactly the right phrase.

Sometimes the kindest outcome is not the original plan. Hard for people to accept.
