when a stock gaps down 15% on earnings, I try very hard not to become a philosopher

You know the voice. 'What is value really?' 'Was the market always wrong or only today?' 'Maybe this teaches me patience.' No, sometimes it just means your thesis got punched and you need to read slower than your emotions want.

I've started waiting a full day before making any big post-earnings move unless the thesis break is screamingly obvious. Saved me from at least two revenge trades this year.

Become a philosopher is so real. I start writing letters to myself mentally.

The market can overreact and your thesis can still be weaker than yesterday.

Exactly. Delay helps me separate those two possibilities.

Waiting a day is underrated. After-hours brain should not run capital.

I make one note: what changed factually? Anything beyond that can wait till coffee.

I sold a gap-down once at the open and bought back higher two weeks later. Great system.

Revenge trades are just emotions with a ticker symbol.
