my dog stole a hot dog from a fifth grade science fair and my son may never recover socially

Picture thirty folding tables in a school gym, tri-fold boards about erosion, and one very determined mixed-up morning where I forgot the dog was in the car after soccer. I brought him in 'just for one minute' while grabbing our poster tube. He reached up, stole half a hot dog off the concessions table, and trotted off like he was keynote speaker. No one was hurt except my son's dignity.

I did almost this exact thing at a church bake sale except it was an entire unwrapped muffin.

I am so sorry for your son's temporary death by embarrassment.

Your son will hate this now and tell it at every family event in ten years.

The image of a dog trotting off with stolen conference catering energy is sending me.

Keynote speaker lmao

This is why every family photo from those years should come with a little dog-chaos footnote.

Kids recover. parents curate the legend.

The teacher laughed, which saved us. My son did not. he stared at the ceiling like he'd left his body.

Honestly the teacher probably appreciated a memorable science fair story after hour three.

He has already requested that I never speak of 'the hot dog incident' again, so naturally I am documenting it for posterity.

My lab once ate the corner off a poster board about the water cycle. Education continued somehow.

Honestly the real lesson is never combine school logistics and dog logistics before coffee.
