Is keeping small amounts on an exchange actually fine?

I know the slogan. But real talk: if someone has a few hundred bucks spread across BTC, ETH, and a stablecoin, is self-custody always worth the complexity immediately?

Not trying to be lazy, just trying to match the setup to the actual size and my current skill level.

Size matters less than sleep. If exchange custody keeps you calm for month one, that's still useful.

'size matters less than sleep' might be the best beginner advice in this thread

Both takes are fair. Maybe do a small wallet setup now and keep the rest where it is until you're comfy.

Security isn't binary. Strong passwords + 2FA + no sketchy clicking gets beginners pretty far.

Counterpoint: practice self-custody before the amount gets meaningful, while mistakes are cheaper.

I think it's reasonable to graduate in stages. Learn first, then self-custody when the amount feels meaningful to you.
