Paid off the mortgage early, now second guessing the choice

51 now. Last year I used a big chunk of cash to clear the mortgage. Emotionally it felt incredible for about three months. Financially I'm now wondering if I traded future flexibility for a warm fuzzy badge.

Current investable portfolio:
- 58% global equity funds
- 22% bond funds
- 20% cash

Goal is retirement around 62. Risk tolerance medium. Anyone else glad they paid off the house and also still kind of annoyed about it?

Peace of mind has a return, it's just not quoted on screen.

Yes! That's the argument I keep making to myself at 2am

I paid mine off and then spent a year doing mental backtests like a clown.

You probably bought yourself resilience, not maximum expected value.

If you're still investing plenty, I wouldn't beat yourself up.
