i have 300 euros and 40 tabs open. how did you pick your first ETF?
Been trying to start for 3 months and I somehow made it harder by reading everything. I live in Portugal, can put in about 300 EUR a month, and every thread turns into people arguing about world ETF vs S&P 500 vs dividend ETF vs 'just buy your local market'.
At this point I think analysis paralysis is costing me more than picking something imperfect. What was your actual first buy and why?

Same country as you? Watch broker minimum fees before anything else. A perfect ETF with a chunky purchase fee is suddenly not so perfect for 300/mo.

yeah thats one thing confusing me. monthly fee is low but each buy still stings

I wish beginner guides said this with less chest-thumping.

Pick the one you can hold through ugly months. The 'best' fund on paper is useless if you bail at -12%.

This is the part beginner articles skip. temperament > spreadsheet

Same, and it changed how I size every new idea now.

My first buy was a boring global ETF because I knew I'd tinker if I had five choices. Best decision of my investing life honestly.

Yep, one less choice can be a huge relief when you're new.

Yep, that's the part people only learn after a wobble.

Close the tabs and buy one broad fund next payday. Future you will not remember the one-basis-point difference lol

Same. the spreadsheet answer mattered less than the behavior answer.

That distinction took me way too long to understand.

I started with a US-heavy one, then swapped to a broad world UCITS fund later when I understood tax/reporting better. Didn't ruin my life either way.

This is the kind of boring wisdom I wish apps pushed harder.

Exactly. tiny habits end up steering big balances later.
