anybody move from general sysadmin work into blue team in their 30s

I've done infra and endpoint wrangling forever, lots of incident-ish work, decent scripting, but not a formal security title. Considering making the jump. Curious what actually translated well and what blindsided you once you were in detection/response land full time.

I made the jump at 34. No regrets, but expect to learn a lot of log weirdness fast.

Log weirdness I can do. Formal incident writeups might be my bigger hill

You'll probably know more about how systems really fail than some entry-level security folks.

The biggest shift for me was documentation discipline. Cases need a cleaner paper trail than admin chaos usually does.
