male cat started peeing on the bath mat after our baby came home

Neutered, 4 years old, previously rock solid litter habits. Baby arrived three weeks ago, and now twice he's peed on the bath mat and once on a pile of clean burp cloths. No straining, normal appetite, still cuddly, just clearly Not Thrilled by the tiny roommate. Vet can see us Friday. Any reset ideas in the meantime?

More one-on-one time helped ours. even 10 minutes of wand toy before bed made a difference.

Newborn phase is survival mode. you're not ruining the cat, promise.

He definitely gets less attention than before and I feel guilty even typing that.

Also block access to laundry piles. soft absorbent stuff becomes a target fast

Friday vet is good. rule out medical before assuming he's just being salty.

Add another box if you can. weirdly that solved our post-baby pee protest.

Bath mats are basically giant fake litter patches to stressed cats.

Wash the mat with enzyme cleaner or it becomes the official bathroom forever.
