why is my kitten stealing socks specifically and not any other laundry

4-month-old rescue. He ignores towels, shirts, even the warm dryer pile, but a single ankle sock on the floor becomes a hunting trophy immediately. Is this texture? smell? tiny criminal preference?

Size + scent. Socks are portable and smell the most like us. disgusting but affectionate.

As long as he's not eating threads, I'd mostly just laugh and buy more socks.

Mine used to yowl while carrying one around like he'd slain a moose.

Could also be the elastic. Some kittens get weirdly into that movement.

that makes sense because he likes hoodie strings too
