how long is too long for a pothos cutting to live in water before i commit to soil

This thing has been in a mason jar since spring and has roots like headphone wires. It seems happy? I keep meaning to pot it up and then chicken out because water life is clearly working. Am I delaying the inevitable or is this fine indefinitely?

Once the water roots get wild, soil can be a sulk-fest at first.

"not illegal" is exactly the level of reassurance I needed

It can stay in water a long time if you feed it lightly now and then.

I learned this the expensive way as well.

Transition shock is real but manageable. Move it when you can baby it for two weeks.

That has been true in my apartment too.

I left one in a jar for almost two years. Not ideal, but not illegal.
