57, late starter, can this still work without gambling?

Age 57. Due to a combination of caring for family, inconsistent work, and plain old avoidance, I'm only now getting organized. Goal is to retire around 68 if health allows. Risk tolerance: medium-low, because a huge drawdown this close to the finish line would wreck me.

Current allocation on 310k:
- 50% global equities
- 30% bonds
- 20% cash

My worry is that this looks too cautious to catch up, but aggressive feels like trying to repair a leak with fireworks.

30% bonds and 20% cash would not scare me in your position.

Repair a leak with fireworks is incredible and also correct.

At 57 the answer is usually save more, work a bit longer, and avoid disasters.

That's reassuring. I've had enough fireworks in my life

You don't need a miracle. You need a plan you can stick to for 10+ years.
