automatic litter box worth it with two seniors or asking for drama?

Both cats are 12+. One is arthritic and one is suspicious of every appliance louder than a refrigerator. Scooping isn't the issue so much as I work hospital shifts and if I get slammed the boxes aren't always pristine by morning. But these machines cost real-adult-money. Success stories? Horror stories?

Maybe rent/borrow one first if any local pet store does that. a lot of cats either love them or file a complaint

Success in my house, but I kept the old box out for a month so nobody panic-boycotted.

The horror story is when the sensor fails and you become emotionally attached to checking it 14 times a day.

My nervous cat hated the cycle noise and started holding it, which was a no from me.

For seniors I'd prioritize entrance height over fancy features.

Hospital shifts are exactly the use case though. the consistency matters.

Yeah, 7pm to 7am and then I come home to a full box and instant guilt.
