how much home bias is too much when you live in a country you actually understand well?

I'm in Japan and naturally follow local companies more closely than foreign ones. Part of me thinks that should count for something. Other part of me knows familiarity can become overconfidence really fast.

How do you balance 'invest in what you know' with 'don't build your whole life around one economy'?

I separate it like this: global index for wealth, local picks for curiosity.
