my AMZN thesis got clearer after reading the annual report instead of finance twitter summaries
The retail side still looks messy if you stare at it quarter to quarter, but the thing that jumped out at me was how much optionality comes from logistics already being built. Everyone talks AWS, fair enough, but the physical network is its own moat even if margins wobble.
Also: 10-Ks are boring until suddenly they aren't. I found more signal in risk factors and capex discussion than in a month of hot takes.

For AMZN I started with capex, segment notes, then risk factors. Felt less glossy than the shareholder letter.

Segment notes are where the boring gold lives.

Yep. Footnotes are where management loses the marketing department.

Still can't own it because I never know if I'm buying e-commerce, cloud, or a warehouse robot fanfic.

My issue is I read 10 pages then convince myself one sentence is edge. Need restraint.

Amazon is one of the few companies where capex can look scary and bullish at the same time.

Reading the lease commitments section on logistics-heavy companies always sobers me up.

I appreciate any post that admits the filing helped more than the timeline did.

Same takeaway here. People act like retail is a charity project when it's also infrastructure.

Reading the actual filing is such a cheat code for calming down.

People forget how many little engines are inside AMZN now. Ads alone changed how I think about the whole thing.

Same, and it made the retail segment feel less one-dimensional to me.

AWS pays the bills, logistics keeps the castle wall high.
