brought home bonded shelter sisters and my resident cat is FURIOUS

I did the separate room, scent swap, feeding at the door thing. It's day 11. New girls are chill together, resident 6yo female sits outside the door growling like a tiny chainsaw. No one is trying to attack through the gap, but the vibe is deeply hostile. Did your resident cat eventually stop acting like you founded an invading nation?

Also trim nails before first real meetings. ask me how I know

Put a blanket or towel at the gap if the staring contest is escalating them

Don't do face to face just because the shelter asks for updates. go at cat speed, not admin speed.

Bonded pairs can actually be easier long term because they entertain each other and stop pestering the resident cat as much.

Feeding on both sides of the door is boring advice but it works.

That is progress, honestly.

We're doing churu taxes twice a day at the door and it's the one time she forgets to hiss.

If nobody is lunging under the door, you're not in disaster territory yet.

Any chance your resident girl lost her favorite territory? doorway, couch, cat tree? sometimes adding resources calms the politics.

Chainsaw is such a good description. mine made that exact lawn equipment noise.

I used a screen door insert and it saved my sanity.

I rushed mine because everyone online said 2 weeks max. huge mistake. had to start over.

Female/female intros can be sloooow. not doomed, just slow.

Day 11 is early. mine took six weeks to progress from demon chanting to tolerating visuals.
