covered call ETF for income or am I just dressing risk up?

My dad keeps forwarding me videos about covered call funds like they are cheat codes for retirement. The yield numbers look shiny, which immediately makes me suspicious.

My boring baseline is:
VTI 55%
VXUS 20%
BND 15%
SCHD 5%
cash 5%

Anyone here actually use a covered call ETF as part of a long-term portfolio without regretting it?

The yield is the bait. Read what you're giving up in strong markets.

For me it's know what problem it's solving. If the problem is boredom, no.

That's exactly my fear. Fancy packaging for a tradeoff Dad doesn't care to read about.

I use one for a tiny slice in my parents' account because they care more about cash hitting than total return purity.

They can be tools, but the marketing is absolutely clownish.
