can someone explain BAC to me like I'm smart in one area and clueless in another

I understand the basic bull case: big deposit base, decent franchise, benefits if the rate backdrop cooperates. But whenever people start debating securities losses, deposit betas, and net interest income sensitivity I feel my eyes glaze over.

Is BAC a simple patience story or one of those names that's cheap for reasons I won't appreciate until it's too late?

I owned it for years. Fine business, not always a fine stock.

Cheap-ish and rate sensitive, which is why the stock can feel like a macro ETF wearing a bank costume.

Cheap for reasons, yes, but not doomed. Just a name that requires patience and an iron tolerance for conference-call jargon.

The shorthand is: if rates move in the wrong way for expectations, every BAC holder suddenly becomes an economist.

This is why I punt and buy XLF when I want financial exposure.

Totally fair. Single-bank diligence is where I start wishing I liked utilities more.
