my parents want a minute-by-minute family itinerary spreadsheet. how do you resist kindly

Trip to Japan next spring, 8 people, ages 14 to 68. My dad emailed a tab called 'Bathroom Opportunities.' I love them dearly but if every train ride becomes a board meeting I may dissolve. Need diplomacy tactics from people who've done big family trips.

'Bathroom Opportunities' is hilarious and also kind of useful not gonna lie.

My fix was assigning one person per day as 'captain'. Reduced committee meetings by 70%.

Give them anchor points only: hotel, one morning thing, one dinner. Leave white space or everyone mutinies.

Older relatives sometimes plan hard because they're anxious about getting lost. If you frame free time as intentional, it helps.

Yep. Once my mom knew there was a backup plan she chilled out a lot.

Make two columns: must-do and maybe-do. Parents love structure, everyone else loves escape hatches.
