tiny local model ended up being perfect for log triage

I kept trying to use the biggest thing available for everything because bigger = smarter = better, right. Then I ran a small local model against ugly app logs just to cluster similar failures and summarize the boring repeats. It was fast, private enough for our setup, and honestly more useful than the expensive "assistant" demos we'd been waving around.

What size model?

7B-ish. Quantized. Nothing glamorous, which is kind of the point

Also less temptation to stuff half your infrastructure data into somebody else's API.

Latency matters so much for this kind of workflow.

A lot of AI work is finally learning where "good enough" beats "impressive".

Love this. Small models on narrow chores are underrated.
