how often are you stopping on long drives with adult dogs?

Not puppies, not seniors with bladder stuff, just normal healthy adult dogs. I keep seeing wildly different advice from 'every 2 hours no matter what' to 'mine sleeps five straight and is annoyed when I stop.' Trying to calibrate without turning a six hour trip into nine.

I offer every 2.5 to 3 hours and don't force the issue if he just sniffs and stares at me.

Summer heat changes the math a lot. More water in means more stops out.

My dog could do five but *I* can't, so we stop every three-ish and call it compromise.
