401k or high-yield savings for money we might need in ~2 years?

My partner and I may move if his fellowship lines up, which probably means higher rent and maybe a car. We finally have some breathing room each month. Feels silly not to invest, feels risky to lock it up. Looking for sanity, not magic answers.

If there's an employer match, that's free-ish money worth considering before anything else.

Two-year money is usually cash/HYSA money in my world.

Retirement is great but short timeline goals and market swings are a stressful combo.

Could split it. Some to 401k for the match, rest to savings.

You want flexibility, not maximum theoretical return, if the move is real.
