Stock Talk · by Quiet Atlas · 2026-09-26

PYPL might actually be my best example of a stock that stayed in my account longer than the thesis stayed alive

I kept telling myself the brand mattered, the installed base mattered, cash flow mattered. Some of that was true. What I missed was how much the market had moved on from rewarding merely decent digital payment stories without a fresh spark.

Eventually sold most of it. Less because I thought bankruptcy doom, more because my capital was basically sitting in a waiting room.

I held because it looked cheap on every screen and forgot that cheap needs a reason to stop being cheap.

The business wasn't fake, the market's enthusiasm was just gone.

Yep. I confused survivable with compelling.

Capital in a waiting room is painfully accurate.

Dead money can be more mentally draining than outright disasters sometimes.

I finally sold when I realized I was reading every new product announcement like a hostage note.

At least it's a good case study in thesis drift.
