Is staking income or just extra coins in your brain?

Not a tax question exactly, more a psychology one. When staking rewards hit, do you treat them like actual realized value, or do they just feel like game points until you sell?

I think part of why beginners underestimate risk is the rewards feel detached from real money.

Good point. 'free coins' language makes people sloppy.

They feel like game points right up until the paperwork and volatility show up.

I mentally count them as real because otherwise I start hand-waving risk.

Depends on whether you're immediately selling or just compounding into more exposure.
