taking work email off my phone felt childish for one day and amazing after that

I kept telling myself grown adults should be able to "just not check." Turns out if the little red bubble is present, my brain treats it like a smoke alarm. Deleted the account Friday night. Saturday felt weird. By Tuesday I realized I had stopped doing fake relaxing where I am technically on the couch but mentally still at my desk.

My only rule is if they need me urgently they can call. Email is not a siren.

Exactly. If nobody is calling, maybe it can wait til morning

I did this after my last job and my resting heart rate probably sent a thank you note.

I muted Slack after 6 and it changed my evenings more than therapy homework that month.

Fake relaxing is such a brutal accurate phrase.

That makes a lot of sense actually.

You are definitely not the only one.

The red bubble is genuinely manipulative design. I dont think this is childish at all.
