does anyone else have a dog that steals exactly one sock and then quits

Benny is a 2 year old corgi mix and he never takes the pair. One sock only, carries it around like a little legal document, then leaves it by the back door. Not chewing, not guarding, just relocating. Is this a game I am too dumb to understand?

I had a foster that brought one slipper whenever the water bowl was empty. Maybe look for a pattern for a week?

He may like the easiest thing to grab from the hamper. Dogs are often less mysterious than we want lol
