do you post preprints before journal submission or wait

Field is mixed on this. I like the speed and visibility, my supervisor still acts like posting a preprint means mailing the manuscript to pirates. Interested in practical experiences, especially around feedback quality and whether it changed review timelines at all.

Check your exact target journal policies, but in a lot of fields this fight is basically over.
