50 and trying to decide whether 60/40 is boring wisdom or fear in khakis

Age 50, retirement maybe at 63 if markets and knees cooperate. Risk tolerance medium. I've spent years around 75/15/10 and now I'm wondering if moving toward a classic 60/40 style mix is sensible or just me aging into caution.

Current allocation:
- 72% equities
- 18% bonds
- 10% cash

I know labels don't matter as much as behavior, but still curious how people in their 50s think about the old balanced formulas now.

60/40 is not a religion. It's just a very normal tradeoff.

I'm 52 and landed at 65/25/10. Close enough without making a shrine to round numbers.

Fear in khakis made me laugh harder than it should have.

No shrine to round numbers should be another flair

If moving to 60/40 stops you from making dumb panic choices later, that's wisdom.
