54 and trying to design my glide path instead of winging it

For years I just vaguely became more conservative whenever headlines felt loud. I'd rather have a real plan. Age 54, retirement target around 65. Risk tolerance medium.

Current mix:
- 62% equities
- 23% bonds
- 15% cash

Thinking of moving toward roughly 50/35/15 over the next decade unless markets do something dramatic. Curious how people decided on a glide path that felt specific enough to follow but not fake-precise.

Your proposed path sounds normal to me.

I use ranges, not a path. Like 'stocks 50-60 until age x'. Keeps me from pretending I know too much.

Ranges might fit my personality better than a line on a chart

Fake precision is such a trap. Nobody knows whether 34% or 36% bonds is the magic bean.

I tied mine to years-from-retirement instead of headlines and it immediately lowered my blood pressure.
