Web Dev · by Cedar Atlas · 2026-10-03

What is worth spending money on for performance when life is busy?

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Web Dev feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I started this because my winter felt a little stuck, and backend seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. javascript got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam

I would log the input, the expected output and the actual output first. Once those three are visible, the bug usually stops feeling mysterious. A little friction removed goes a long way

The safe answer is to keep the API boring: clear names, explicit errors and one behavior per function. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing

Agree completely. The simple version is underrated

Really good advice, and it feels doable. I keep a note about javascript for exactly this reason
