The most gentle part of learning javascript that actually stuck

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 2 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I tried this in Mexico City with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the route for a while.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 9 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through

I am cheering for this update. For me it came down to the first draft

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Toronto? I would test it for 3 days before deciding

love the tiny experiment energy. That is where the boring checklist helps

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. This would have saved me alot of trial and error

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. It sounds small, but the conversation matters

Totally agree, especially for beginners

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Cape Town? The low-effort version is probably the keeper

interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 8 months. I keep a note about ux for exactly this reason

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. This is more useful on a tired rainy evening than on a perfect day

This is the kind of disagreement I like

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the library

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. Good reminder that tools should serve people, not the reverse

My version of this was messier but the conclusion was similar. A little friction removed goes a long way

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I used to overcomplicate this constantly

this is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I noticed the same thing in Lagos

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. That is the kind of detail beginners miss. Good reminder that tools should serve people not the reverse

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me. Naming things remains undefeated as the hardest problem

the boring logistics are always the hidden part. The Madrid example makes it feel concrete
