Web Dev · by Liam Eriksson · 2026-09-03

The thing nobody told me about backend in Toronto

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Web Dev feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 3 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

> Tiny progress is still progress.

That line sounds cheesy, but it got me through the part where ux stopped feeling new.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Lisbon? I am curious whether css still feels good next month.

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. That is where the boring checklist helps.
