My favorite low-effort upgrade for finishing without making it complicated
my current rule is simple: if it takes less than 4 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Woodworking feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. joinery got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
I started this because my late summer felt a little stuck, and finishing seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept

There is a hidden assumption here that not everyone shares. I noticed the same thing in Mexico City

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I would write it down before changing anything else

maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger then the post suggests

that is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. I would love to see a follow-up after 7 weeks

The finishing angle is what sold me. The low-effort version is probly the keeper

There may be a middle ground here; the route matters too.

Good reminder that boring can be good. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability

that is fair, but I still worry about maintenance

I found this disappointing because it skips the hardest part. The a tiny balcony detail changes the whole answer

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. The social part surprised me too

really good advice, and it feels doable. I keep a note about joinery for exactly this reason

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. The Dublin example makes it feel concrete

I would not call it wrong just incomplete. The weekend version is even more interesting

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. The low-effort version is probably the keeper
