Server components changed how I think about data fetching, but the mental model took weeks to click

Coming from traditional REST + client side fetching, the whole 'components can be async and run on the server' thing broke my brain for a while. Once it clicked though, so much client side loading state complexity just disappeared. Anyone else go through this adjustment period recently?

the adjustment period is real, i fought it for a month before it clicked, now i genuinely dont want to go back to client fetching everywhere

the hardest part for me was understanding the client/server boundary and when you actually NEED a client component vs defaulting to one out of habit

waterfalls are still a real concern with server components if youre not careful, parallel data fetching takes deliberate effort

this, i had 3 sequential awaits that should have been Promise.all and didnt notice for weeks because it still 'worked'

honestly the docs undersold how much this changes your mental model, wish there was a better migration guide for people coming from spa patterns

i still reach for client components more than i probably should out of old habits, its a real muscle memory thing to unlearn

the loading.tsx + suspense boundaries pattern genuinely replaced like 80% of my manual loading state code, huge quality of life win

curious how this holds up for more complex interactive dashboards vs the blog/content site use case its usually demoed with
