How do you know the difference between being patient in a relationship vs settling for less than you deserve?

Been with my partner 2 years, there are things that genuinely frustrate me but also genuinely good things that make me not want to leave. Trying to figure out how to tell the difference between normal relationship patience and ignoring red flags because its comfortable.

ask yourself if the frustrating things are about HABITS (fixable with effort/communication) or VALUES (usually not fixable), that distinction matters a lot

a good litmus test: when you bring up the frustration, do they get defensive or do they genuinely try to understand your side, the response pattern tells you more than the issue itself

write down the specific things, not vague feelings, sometimes seeing it on paper makes the pattern clearer than it feels in your head

2 years is long enough that patterns are patterns not just adjustment period, if its still an issue now it'll likely still be an issue in 5 years without real change

couples counseling isnt a last resort thing, it can genuinely help you both see this more clearly even if things arent 'bad' yet

trust your gut more than you think, the fact youre even asking this question online is itself a signal worth sitting with

settling usually comes with a specific feeling of resignation, patience comes with hope, check which one you actually feel day to day
