Bootstrapped to \$50k MRR with zero outside funding — what I'd do differently if starting over

Took almost 4 years to get here, slower than a funded competitor who raised a few months after we started and burned out within 18 months. Biggest regret: waited too long to charge money, spent the first year building for free users who were never going to convert. Biggest win: stayed scrappy enough that a slow market didnt kill us the way it killed the funded competitor. Ask me anything.

the 'waited too long to charge' regret is so common in bootstrapped stories, charging early even a small amount filters for real signal way better than free user feedback does

4 years to 50k mrr bootstrapped is genuinely impressive, people chasing hypergrowth forget that slow and sustainable compounds just fine over a long enough timeline

what was your pricing strategy early on, did you start too low and have to raise prices or got it roughly right from the start

started at \$19/mo which in hindsight was too low for the value we delivered, took 18 months to work up to our current \$79/mo and wish wed started closer to there

the funded competitor burning out in 18 months is such a common story, raising money creates a growth expectation clock that doesnt always match the actual market readiness

congrats on this, genuinely inspiring to see a patient build like this work out, most survivorship bias content is about the fast exciting stories not the grindy consistent ones

how did you handle the mental toll of watching a funded competitor seemingly move faster for that first year or two before they flamed out
