How did you know your partner was 'the one' vs just a really good relationship?

Been with my girlfriend for 2 years and things are genuinely great, but I keep hearing people describe this certainty feeling about their partner that I'm honestly not sure I relate to. Is that a real thing or more of a retrospective story people tell after things work out? Curious about real experiences here, good or messy.

honestly the 'certainty' thing is mostly retrospective narrative imo, in the moment it was way more 'this feels good and i want to keep choosing this' than lightning bolt certainty

for me it was less a feeling and more noticing how we handled conflict, the first real disagreement taught me more than 2 years of good times did

married my wife 6 years ago and i still dont think i ever had 'the certainty feeling', just consistently chose her and it worked out great

this is reassuring to read honestly, i think the movies really oversold a specific feeling that isnt universal

watching how they treat service workers/strangers when theyre stressed told me more than any romantic gesture ever did

2 years is genuinely still early for some of this, big life stuff (money stress, family issues, moving) tends to reveal more than good times do

honestly i think wanting the same future (kids or not, where to live, values) matters more long term than any specific 'feeling'

my therapist once said 'the one' is a myth that causes more anxiety than clarity, the healthier frame is 'a great partner i choose daily'

lol my parents have been married 30 years and when i asked my dad this he just laughed and said 'she was patient with my nonsense'
