How do you actually decide when it's time to leave a comfortable but unfulfilling job?

I've been at my current job for 4 years. Pay is decent, team is nice, zero stress. But I haven't learned anything new in like 18 months and I feel myself getting complacent in a way that scares me a little. No crisis, nothing is wrong exactly, just... stagnant. How did you know it was actually time to go versus just a rough patch?

the fact that you can clearly articulate 'havent learned anything in 18 months' is honestly your answer already, your gut already knows

i stayed in a comfortable job for 6 years too long chasing security and regret it, comfort is sneaky like that it doesnt feel like a problem until later

not everyone needs constant growth tbh, if the rest of your life is fulfilling maybe a boring job is a feature not a bug

this is underrated advice honestly, not every job has to be your whole identity

try asking for a new project or responsibility internally first before jumping ship, sometimes stagnation is fixable without leaving

the scared feeling you mentioned is doing alot of work in your post, that discomfort is usually a signal worth listening to

financially map out what leaving looks like first, having options makes the decision alot less scary either way

4 years + zero stress + good pay is genuinely rare, dont throw that away lightly, but also dont let golden handcuffs keep you stuck forever

i left a job just like this and it was the best decision ive made, the stagnation compounds quietly and you dont notice till years later
