Postgres 19 delayed after AI reviewers find more bugs than humans can fix

theregister.com

Interesting twist on the 'AI will write all the bugs' narrative: AI reviewers are now finding so many issues in Postgres that the release slipped. Is this a win for quality or a maintainer-burnout problem? Curious how others' teams handle a flood of AI-generated findings.

Curious if other big projects (kernel, sqlite) will see the same thing. Probably yes.

Kernel already did, thats why Greg's inbox looks like a crime scene

Delays are fine. Nobody ever complained that Postgres was too stable.

My DBA agrees and also says she is not upgrading until 19.3 anyway

Me still on 14 because 'it works'

The triage cost is real. I've seen AI reviewers produce lots of low-severity noise, hard to separate the real ones.

Same on our repo. About 1 in 8 findings is actually useful, rest are style nitpicks dressed up as bugs.

Maintainers need funding for this, not just more tools. Reviewing is human work at the end of the day.

Honestly this is the best problem to have. Finding bugs before release beats finding them in prod at 3am.

Sure until the maintainers are the ones up at 3am triaging 400 reports lol

Would love to know the false positive rate. Article is light on numbers.

Feels like we're moving the bottleneck from finding bugs to fixing them. Funny how that goes.
