What's a good first project for learning to self-host with zero Linux experience?

I'm comfortable on a computer but terminals scare me. I'd like something small and useful to start. Not a full media stack on day one. Suggestions?

a pi-hole is a classic first step. immediate feedback when it works

a simple static site. you learn dns, https, and files, and it's hard to break

don't try to learn docker, networking, and linux all at once. one thing per week

this is the wisdom. i overloaded myself and quit twice

start with a note-taking or bookmark app. low risk, high value

agree, nothing critical if it breaks

terminal is less scary than it looks, it's mostly copy paste at first lol
