Musk says Tesla and SpaceX are talking merger, with special committees set up

theverge.com

Elon Musk says Tesla and SpaceX are discussing a possible merger, and special committees are involved, presumably to handle the obvious conflict of interest with him sitting on both sides. One is public and one is private, so it's not obvious how a deal like that would even be structured. Does a combined company make strategic sense, or is this mostly about something else?

how would this even work with one public and one private? SpaceX shareholders get Tesla stock?

that'd be my guess but valuation fights would be brutal

special committees are doing a lot of heavy lifting when the same guy controls both companies

that's literally what they're for though. whether they're actually independent is the real question

the committee members probably all have his number on speed dial

Tesla shareholders should be asking who benefits more here

Feels like a way to get retail investors exposure to SpaceX without an IPO

'discussing' is doing a lot of work in that headline yeah
