My cat screams at 5am for breakfast every day. Is an automatic feeder worth it?

Every morning at 5am on the dot my cat starts yelling outside the bedroom door until someone gets up and feeds her. I made the mistake of giving in early on and now she's fully trained me. I'm wondering if an automatic feeder would break the link between me and breakfast. Has it actually worked for anyone, or do they just scream at the feeder instead?

Pick one with a lock on the lid. my cat broke into the cheap one in 2 days

Worked for us within about a week. she now sits in front of the feeder at 5am and ignores us completely

ours stares at the feeder like it owes her money

Worth it for us but they're not cheap. look for one that runs on batteries as backup in case of a power cut

good tip, ours skipped a meal once during an outage and we never heard the end of it

Try a bigger meal before bed too. vet suggested it and it helped calm the dawn yelling

we split dinner into two, one late at night. helped a lot

Get one with a timer you can set to 4:55. beat her to it

Honestly it shifted ours from screaming at us to screaming at the machine. still loud but not my problem anymore
