Adopted a senior rescue (11 yrs) — what should I know for the first month?

Just brought home an 11 year old beagle mix from the shelter. Super sweet, a bit nervous, sleeps a lot. First time with a senior. Anything you wish you'd known in the first weeks with an older rescue?

get a full vet checkup with bloodwork early, seniors hide pain well

dental especially, a lot of shelter seniors have bad teeth

orthopedic bed and rugs on slippery floors. old joints hate hardwood

yoga mats as runners worked for us, cheap fix

Senior pet insurance is expensive but look into it before something comes up

or set aside a monthly fund, sometimes cheaper than insurance at that age

the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn routine, 3 months to feel home

lots of sleep is normal for seniors, 16-18 hours. dont worry
