AmiJa: a cycle-exact Amiga emulator written in Java

Saw this pop up today, cycle-exact Amiga emulation in Java. People love to dunk on Java for this kind of thing but modern JIT is pretty fast. Anyone here tried writing an emulator? What was harder than you expected?

java with low pause GCs is totally fine for this now. people still think it's 2005
