Halloween with toddlers: how do you handle the candy situation?

First Halloween where our 3 year old actually understands what's happening. Do you let them go wild for one night, do the 'switch witch' trade, or ration it for weeks? Also how late do you stay out?

we do 4 houses and home by 6:30. they're happy, we're happy, bedtime survives

let them go wild that night, then it mysteriously disappears over the next week. they forget by day 3
