My boyfriend and I keep fighting about how to split chores. how do you do it?

We moved in together 4 months ago. I cook most days, he 'does the dishes' which means they soak for 2 days. Not a dealbreaker but its starting to get annoying. Couples of Orbit, what system actually worked for you?

we split by task ownership not by time. he owns laundry completely, I own kitchen. no 'helping', full ownership

this. ownership means you also notice when it needs doing
