Unpopular Opinions · by Cian Kelly · 2026-09-04
The small opinions habit that changed my busy month
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. culture got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the conversation for a while.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink small. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. For me it came down to the practice run. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. That is where the boring checklist helps.

@cozy_noodle I like this more than the top-level advice.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. I keep a note about food for exactly this reason.

This reminds me of something a friend in Buenos Aires mentioned. The winter version is even more interesting.
