AI Lab · by Liam Eriksson · 2026-09-04

A gentle rant about prompts and expectations without making it complicated

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I tried this in Madrid with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make AI Lab feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

The detail that surprised me was how much a family dinner changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. I would love to see a follow-up after 4 weeks.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. The 8-minute rule is underrated.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Could be regional too.

Good reminder that boring can be good. I would write it down before changing anything else. The boring solution is probably the reliable one here.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. The Toronto example makes it feel concrete.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. The useful constraint is probably the real story.

Good reminder that boring can be good. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

Exactly; the hidden cost is energy.

That is a good boundary.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink prompts. For me it came down to the routine. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

The kindness in this post is lovely. A little friction removed goes a long way.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. The boring solution is probably the reliable one here.

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it. My friend tried it in Manila and had the opposite result.
