Reddit moving to a logged-in experience as search traffic dries up

techcrunch.com

TechCrunch says Reddit is pushing toward a logged-in experience now that AI answers are eating Google search clicks. That's a big change for a site most people only reached by adding 'reddit' to a search query. Is this the start of the open web closing up behind logins, or a reasonable move when AI companies are scraping everything for free?

from a business view it makes total sense, logged out traffic is worth almost nothing to them now

half the reason people added 'reddit' to searches was to avoid paywalls and logins. kinda ironic
