Waymo and Toyota are building a purpose-made robotaxi, starting in Tokyo

theverge.com

The Verge reports Waymo and Toyota will build autonomous bZ4X robotaxis on the factory line in Japan, launching in Tokyo in 2027 before expanding to the UK. Tokyo already has one of the best transit systems on earth, so it's an interesting test market. Do robotaxis fill real gaps like late nights and last-mile trips, or do they mostly pull riders off trains and add cars to streets?

a robotaxi is still a car taking up road space. the question is whether it's replacing a private car or a train ride

and that depends almost entirely on pricing and parking policy, not the tech

in a city where the last train is around midnight and taxis are expensive, I can see the late-night use case honestly
