What's your go-to game for a group that's half new players, half veterans?

Mixed tables are tricky: the veterans want some actual decisions, the newcomers need to learn in five minutes and not get crushed. Lately I've had good luck with cooperative games and anything with simultaneous turns, since nobody sits around waiting. What reliably works at your mixed game nights, and what has backfired badly?

backfired: teaching a 3 hour euro to my in-laws. we did not finish. we did not speak of it again

just one, codenames, so clover. word games level the field because experience doesn't help much

co-ops are great but watch out for the veteran quarterbacking everyone's turn
